Why Beetroot is Good?

Last Updated on Wednesday, 26 February 2014 14:17

Beetroot is “in” as a vegetable for juicing. This is because the juice is particularly rich in natural nitrates, which help to widen arteries, thereby lowering blood pressure.

Daily intake of fresh beet juice increases oxygen availability by up to 14% in muscle cells. This translates into improved stamina, not only for athletes, but for anyone who tires quickly when walking, researchers say.

Beets contain various phytonutrients called betalains (betanin and vulgaxanthin), seen in the purplish-red hue of the vegetable. These are antioxidants and anti-inflammatories, provide detoxification and possibly help reduce tumours.

Turmeric: A spice for Health

Food, herbs and spices are increasingly analysed for hidden medicinal and nutritional benefits. This is an important development as such “medication” can be used cheaply, as part of a daily diet, without the inconvenience and expense of a doctor's appointment.

One such spice is the well-known turmeric or arad, a colourant to make yellow rice. It’s somewhat strong, bitter taste blends wonderfully with curries, but it’s not palatable in raw form, particularly if you need larger amounts for pain relief. There’s an easy alternate – simply buy empty capsules, fill them with turmeric powder and “make” your own supplements. It can be used very effectively for short-term relief from severe chronic or acute painful inflammatory conditions such as arthritis, without nasty side effects.

A pleasant countenance is also one of the bounties of Allah Ta’ala. A simple way of removing ones grief and keeping happy is to smile at everyone. It is obvious that a woman is not permitted to smile at a strange man. In fact, smiling at strange men will only increase her grief. Put it to the test, smile at someone and automatically that person smiles back. The heart is almost delighted when a person with a happy countenance is seated near one. On the other hand everyone wishes to distance themselves from a person who is straight faced and grumpy. Smiling and cheerfulness is a very healthy form of exercise. If facilitates the digestion of the food. The happiness of the heart is as effective as good medication. If we want good for ourself, we will continue smiling.
