Don’t Chase them, You Need them!

When Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) saw Jibreel (‘alaihis salaam) for the very first time, he was terrified. Khadeejah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) consoled him by confirming that he really met an angel and not any devil. She did this in a unique manner by requesting Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) to inform her the next time Jibreel (‘alaihis salaam) comes to him. Hence when Jibreel (‘alaihis salaam) came again, he informed her accordingly. She told him to sit very close to her and asked him if he was still able to see Jibreel (‘alaihis salaam), to which he replied in the affirmative. Finally she dropped her scarf and lowered the neck line of her garment and asked him if he could still see Jibreel (‘alaihis salaam), to which he replied: “No.” She said to him: “Glad tidings. He is definitely an angel and not a devil.” (Al-Istee‘aab vol. 4, pg. 381)

Lesson: Exposing the head (by not wearing a scarf) and the upper part of the chest, chases the angels of Allah Ta‘ala away and results in us being deprived of their assistance and protection which we are greatly in need of. They are there to help and inspire us, let us not chase them away!
