Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said: “There is nothing more weighty in the scales than excellent character.” (Sunan Abi Dawood #4801)

A person’s character is constantly tested by different people and in different ways. However one always needs to respond by displaying excellent character. In this way one will continuously be earning rewards which will weigh very heavily in one’s favour on the Day of Judgement.

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said: “Look at the one who is lower than you and do not look at the one who is above you.” (Saheeh Muslim #2963)

In our worldly matters, we should keep our gaze on those who have less than us. This will make us thankful for all that we have and we will enjoy contentment in our lives. The moment we look at those who have more than us, we will become ungrateful. Our lives will also be consumed and exhausted in chasing after temporary pleasures and gains.

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said: “Any woman who passes away in a condition that her husband is happy with her will enter Jannah (paradise).” (Sunan Tirmizi #1161)

The happiness of the husband is the wife’s ticket to Jannah. Her mind should always be thinking of ways to keep her husband happy. A husband cannot ask for more in a wife, if his wife is always cheerful, warm, smiling and caring. To keep one’s husband happy is as easy as just remaining content and expressing one’s happiness.

Indeed real happiness will only be enjoyed if both husband and wife work together as a couple in bringing alive complete Deen, and in both spouses fulfilling each other’s rights and showering love and compassion. Thus, if the wife tactfully creates this situation both will enjoy peace and tranquillity.

Nabi (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said: “You will certainly follow the actions of those before you in everything (inch by inch) to the extent that if they entered the hole of a lizard, you will follow them”. The Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum) asked: “O Rasul of Allah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam)! Are you referring to the Jews and the Christians?” Nabi (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) replied: “Then who else?” (Saheeh Bukhaari #3456)

Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said, “If you place your trust completely in Allah Ta‘ala, as it ought to be, then surely you will be provided sustenance in the manner that birds are provided sustenance. They leave in the morning with their belly empty and return in the evening with their belly full.” (Tirmizi #2344)

Every person’s main worry and concern is his/her sustenance. This overwhelming worry results in tension and high stress levels. The moment man’s gaze moves away from Allah Ta‘ala, then he begins to feel that the burden of sustenance lies completely on his shoulders. Man needs to take a lesson from the birds - the lesson of trust. While adopting the means and making a reasonable effort, to have one’s complete trust in Allah Ta‘ala. This will bring much relief in our lives.
