Maintaining Family Ties

(unedited – summarized)

As salaamualaikum

Respected Ulama Panel

Kindly advise on the following matter:

I have a family member who can be very difficult at times. We have had some issues in the past but I have always tried to maintain the relationship. Recently, when I called her, she took off with me. After saying what she wanted to say, I told her that she has a very bad mouth. She then slammed the phone down on me. I wanted to call her a little later after cooling off. Before I could do this, she called and we both apologised to each other. My husband wants to keep away now.

Faatimah Naysapuri (rahimahallah)

Monday, 10 December 2012 07:33

Faatimah Naysapuri (rahimahallah) was a woman of outstanding piety and wisdom. The great saint Zun-Noon Misri (rahimahullah) says, “She is a friend of Allah Ta’ala and my teacher.” She passed away in Makkah Mukarramah on her way for umrah in 223 A.H.

She used to say, “The person who does not remember Allah Ta’ala falls into every type of sin and blurts out anything and everything that comes onto the tongue. As for the person who remembers Allah Ta’ala all the time, Allah Ta’ala makes him dumb to everything except the truth and makes him have shame for Him and sincerity.” (Sifatus Safwah vol. 2, pg. 315)

Lesson: Today we spend hours talking away with family and friends, without the least remembrance of Allah Ta’ala. Thus we fall into the worst of sins at times. The question that we need to ask ourselves is, when last did we speak about Allah Ta’ala or Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) in our meetings and conversations? That tongue which has been given to us as a gift to take the blessed name of Allah Ta’ala is taking the name of everything but Allah Ta’ala. Let us make the change. Plan in advance of what subtle and brief reminder you will give to those you are going to be talking to. It does not have to be a lecture. A subtle short and sweet message in a friendly and informal way is sometimes more effective than a long lecture.

Bubblegum Tattoo

We all know that it is forbidden to tattoo one’s own body or the body of some other person. Such a sinful act draws the curse of Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) and we deprive ourselves of the mercy of Allah Ta’ala. Unfortunately the western media portrays tattooing as a means of enhancing one’s beauty. The youth, who often fall for any new trend, get caught up in the tattoo craze. The interest and inclination towards tattoos is created in a youngster from his very childhood days.

What Goes Around Comes Around
