Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) once mentioned an incident of a person who purchased some land from another. The purchaser found an earthenware utensil filled with gold buried in the ground. Hence he went to the seller and told him: “Take your gold, for I have purchased from you only the land and not the gold.” The former owner replied: “Well! I have sold you the land together with whatever is in it.”

Hence both the buyer and seller presented their case to a third person in order to resolve their dispute. He asked them: “Do you have any children?” One of them replied: “I have a son.” The other replied: “I have a daughter.” The one presiding over their case then said: “Get the boy married to the girl. Spend some of this wealth in seeing to their needs and give the rest in charity.” (Saheeh Bukhari #3472)

Lesson: The end result of having a big heart is always sweet. In this incident due to the big-heartedness of both parties, Allah Ta’ala blessed them in a wonderful manner and both benefitted.

How to Enter Jannah

Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said, “When a woman performs her five daily salaah, keeps the fast of Ramadaan, remains chaste and pure, and she obeys her husband then she may enter Jannah through whichever door she desires.” (Saheeh Ibnu Hibbaan #4163)

Subhanallah! What a simple prescription for women to gain everlasting success. A woman has to simply do the following:

- Be obedient to Allah Ta’ala.

- Protect one’s chastity. This requires that she does not intermingle with  strange men, lower her gaze, and fully cover herself if she leaves the home out of necessity.

- Be obedient to her husband within the limits of deen.

While this is the prescription for the everlasting success of the hereafter, it is also the prescription for harmony and happiness in one’s marriage.

A person who was taken aback by the honour given to Luqman (alaihis salaam) once approached him and asked: “Are you the very same Luqman who was a slave of the Banu Has-haas tribe?” Luqman (alaihis salaam) replied: “Yes!” The man then asked: “Are you the very same person who used to herd sheep?” Luqman (alaihis salaam) replied: “Yes!” The person asked yet again: “Are you the very same person with a dark complexion?” Luqman (alaihis salaam) replied: “My dark complexion is quite visible and clear to one and all, but what is it that really astonishes you regarding me?” The man replied: “I am astonished that people flock to your gathering and eagerly accept your advice.” Luqman (alaihis salaam) then advised him saying: “Young man! You can also receive this very same rank and honour provided you adhere to the following aspects:

The fashions and trends of the day are always changing. This it self is a clear sign of its deficiency. The creation of Allah Ta’ala never changes. Human beings are not changed to look like birds, and flowers are not changed to look like leaves. This is an indication of the perfection in the creation of Allah Ta’ala. There is no need for any change or improvement.
