Haajar (alaihas salaam) was chosen to be the wife of Nabi Ebrahim (alaihis salaam) and the mother of Nabi Isma’eel (alaihis salaam). Her obedience to her husband, her life of sacrifice, her staying all alone with her suckling son in the barren lands of Makkah, her full trust in Allah Ta’ala, her running between Safa and Marwa were all greatly loved by Allah Ta’ala. Hence, up to this day we all enjoy the blessing of Zam-Zam, part of our Hajj and Umrah is the seven rounds between Safa and Marwa which remind us of Haajar (alaihas salaam)’s love and obedience to Allah Ta’ala. To crown it all, the last and most beloved messenger of Allah Ta’ala, Muhammed (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) was chosen to be from the progeny of her son Isma’eel (alaihis salaam).

How do we make the tarbiyah of our children?

1. Win their confidence: Firstly we have to win the confidence of our children. This can be obtained by adopting the characteristics mentioned in part one. By winning their confidence, they will take their parents as their role models and take to heart whatever advices are given to them.

2. Narrate to them incidents of the pious: Stories play a vital role in moulding the mind of a child. Whatever a child hears in the form of a story is more impressionable than just mere facts. Daily fix some time to read an incident from the lives of the Ambiyaa (alaihimus salaam), Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum), and the Salafus Saaliheen (pious predecessors) before putting them to bed. This is extremely beneficial. Experience bears testimony that this method is very effective for tarbiyah. The greatest benefit of narrating stories to children is that it instils the value of deen into their minds and hearts. After narrating the incident, explain to them the morals or the lessons learnt there from.

The Gift of a Partner

PDFPrintE-mail

Thursday, 21 February 2013 07:45

In a marriage there are many signs by which we can recognize our Creator, Allah Ta‘ala. One such sign is that Allah Ta‘ala has created for us partners from amongst ourselves, from amongst our own class and type. It is not asked of us to marry some other species of creation. Thus do not just look at one’s spouse as one’s beloved partner in life, but rather as the “gift” that has been presented to us by Allah Ta‘ala. When one recieves a gift, instead of looking at the quantity and quality of the gift, one should instead look at the one who has given the gift. Any sensible person greatly treasures a gift given to him/her by a pious personality, even though it maybe something insignificant. In the same way Allah Ta‘ala has given us our partner as a gift. Therefore, always consider this and express gratitude to Allah Ta‘ala for his gift.

Nabi Loot (alaihis salaam) was amongst those personalities who were divinely selected to receive prophethood and guide their nations to Allah Ta’ala. He was sent to a people who had become void of all natural and instinctive tendencies. They refused to take heed to the repeated calls of guidance given to them by Nabi Loot (alaihis salaam) and their depraved behaviour was worse than that of even animals. They became inhuman, losing all moral values. Nabi Loot (alaihis salaam) continued to advise them for a long time. Eventually when they transgressed all limits, they “invited” such a punishment which was to be as severe as their crime.
