Letter:

Respected Moulana

I would really appreciate your advice on the following matter which causes a lot of bickering and unhappiness in my home.

Is it possible for a Muslim girl to go out (like for dinner/shopping/to the beach) with her female cousin and her husband. My mother feels we must only go out with our parents.

Respected Maulana,

As-Salaamu ‘Alaikum

Please advise me in respect to the following.

I would like to know if it is a sin to have a very clean and beautiful house? I hope I am not attached to worldly things, but the carpet in my lounge is torn and I want to buy a new one. I also want to paint my kitchen since the walls are peeling and looking dirty. And I want other items for my home whereby I can make my everyday tasks easy and have time for more Ibaadah – instead of working and cleaning all the time.

Letter:

Respected Moulana,

As-Salaamu alaikum warahmatullah

My husband and I have been discussing the issue of the naming of children. We would like to know whose right it is to name the child. Is it the father’s right or the mother’s right? We have been getting different feedback and contradicting answers and we thus decided we will settle on what you say.

Asalamu alaikum Maulana

I have come across your website at a time when I most need guidance.

I am married for almost one and a half years. My husband and I have a very strong relationship most of the time. However, there are things we don't understand and this is causing conflict between us. I try very hard to be a good wife to my husband. Sometimes I get angry and upset with him. I say or do things in anger without thinking. I need guidance. I feel we don't communicate enough about what is bothering us and where we are going. Sometimes my husband irritates me in a good way but beyond the limit and I am finding it hard to handle. Please give me advice and guidelines on being a better wife. Sometimes he is wrong too, but he won't see it. May Allah reward you, Insha-Allah.

Jazakallah.

Asalaam Mu Alaikum Maulana

I am married for several years. Shukr alhamdullilah I love my husband and he loves me and we have a good relationship. However, we have a problem commonly found in other marriages which has become serious: my husband is not happy with my cooking. I try very hard to make the kind of food he likes by looking for new recipes, asking my mother-in-law etc but he is always unhappy. When he doesn't like it, he gets very upset and angry and sometimes he has come close to giving me one 'talaaq' - astagfirrullah. I don't know what to do, as I love him and try so hard but he is rarely happy. He is a very fussy man and has high expectations which I can't seem to meet, no matter how hard I have tried. When I got married I didn't know how to cook, so I tried very quickly to learn, am learning everyday, but I am still unable to please him. Please can you give me some guidance and make dua for my marriage and for myself.

JazakAllah
