Home Women's Issues Spiritual Maladies Not Feeling a Bond with Allah Ta‘ala

Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) is reported to have said: “Allah Ta’ala does not look at your features (that who is more beautiful or what is her complexion) and wealth, but He looks at your hearts and actions.” (Saheeh Muslim #6543) While millions are spent on cosmetics, clothing, jewellery, etc, to adorn the outerself, how much effort do we make to purify our hearts and treat the maladies that create a terrible stench therein? The procedure to purify the heart is to refer to the Mashaayikh (spiritual guides) and seek the remedies to one’s spiritual ailments. Hadhrat Moulana Shah Hakeem Muhammad Akhtar Saheb (mudda zilluhu) is among the spiritual giants of our time who has helped numerous people overcome their spiritual maladies. A selection of the correspondence of those seeking spiritual guidance will be posted for general benefit. May Allah Ta’ala make it a means of our complete rectification.

Not Feeling a Bond with Allah Ta‘ala

Correspondence of  Hazrat Moulana Shah Hakeem Muhammad Akhtar Saheb (rahimahullah)

I am experiencing much confusion, I do not feel any bond with Allah Ta‘ala and my life is passing by meaninglessl

It is not necessary to feel a bond. Rather, it is necessary to have a bond. The sign of this bond will be that you remain far from sins. If you commit an error, you will seek pardon. Such a life is not meaningless but is most valuable.

Tell me how can I establish a bond with Allah Ta‘ala? Should I continue living my life like this? Kindly guide me.

A special bond with Allah Ta‘ala is established through taqwa, i.e. abstention from sins. If you are safeguarding yourself from sins, then this uneasiness is not a proof of any deficiency in your bond with Allah Ta‘ala. You should conclude that you are progressing. There is no failure in this path. Those who seek Allah Ta‘ala most certainly find Him. (Solutions to Spiritual Maladies for the Lovers of Allah Ta‘ala, pg. 350 & 351)
