(Attracting the Angels Series – Part Five)
In the previous parts, various actions were discussed which cause one to earn the special du‘aa of the angels. Below we will mention specific verses or surahs of the Quraan Majeed in regard to which mention is made in the hadeeth that reciting these verses or surahs is the means of one acquiring the special du‘aa or protection of the angels:
Concluding Verses of Surah Hashr
Sayyiduna Ma’qil bin Yasaar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “Whoever recites the following du‘aa three times in the morning:
And thereafter recites the last three verses of Surah Hashr, Allah Ta‘ala will appoint seventy thousand angels to make du‘aa for him until the evening, and if he passes away during that day, he will receive the rank of a martyr, and whoever recites it in the evening, he will enjoy the same virtue until the morning.” (Sunan Tirmizi #2922)
The last three verses of Surah Hashr are:
Aayatul Kursi
Once, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) appointed Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) to safeguard the wealth of Sadaqatul Fitr (i.e. the grain which people had given as Sadaqatul Fitr). For two consecutive nights, Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) apprehended a thief who was attempting to steal the wealth. However, the thief pleaded with him that he was poor and needy, and promised not to return if he was released. Hence, Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) let him go.
On the third night, when Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) apprehended the thief for the third time and threatened to take him before Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), then the thief pleaded with him saying, “Let me go, and I will teach you some words through which Allah Ta‘ala will bestow you with abundant goodness.”
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) was most eager to acquire more goodness and benefit more in his Deen, and hence he agreed. The thief then said to him, “When you retire to bed (at night), then recite Aayatul Kursi, for then a guardian angel will remain with you, appointed from the side of Allah Ta‘ala, and no shaitaan will be able to come close to you until the morning.”
The following morning, when Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) recounted what had transpired to Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “He spoke the truth to you (on this occasion), whereas he is a great liar. Do you know who you were speaking to for the last three nights, O Abu Hurairah? That was Shaitaan.” (Saheeh Bukhaari #2311)
Surah Dukhaan at Night
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said, “The one who recites Surah Dukhaan at night, seventy thousand angels will seek forgiveness on his behalf until the morning.” (Sunan Tirmizi #2888)
Surah Aal ‘Imraan on a Friday
Imaam Makhool (rahimahullah) has mentioned, “The one who recites Surah Aal ‘Imraan on the Day of Jumu‘ah, the angels will continue to make du‘aa for him until the night.” (Sunan Daarimi #3440)
