Question:
Assalaamu ‘alaikum
Respected ‘Ulama
I am currently living with my in-laws and am expecting a child. I would like to know the Islamic ruling regarding going to my mother’s home for confinement. Some people have been taunting me and claiming that it is not permissible.
Please advise

Respected Sister
Just as it is permissible for a woman to visit her mother’s home on other occasions, there is likewise no prohibition in going to her mother’s home for confinement. In fact, it is generally preferred that confinement takes place at the mother’s home, as the daughter is more at ease there and is likely to receive greater care, attention, and rest, enabling her to recuperate fully.
However, it is advisable that this arrangement be made with the mutual understanding and consent of both spouses, so that harmony is maintained.
And Allah Ta‘ala knows best
