Our beloved Nabi Muhammad (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) lived with his grandfather, ‘Abdul Muttalib, for two years. After two years, when Nabi Muhammad (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) was just eight years old, ‘Abdul Muttalib passed away.

When ‘Abdul Muttalib was passing away, he called his son, Abu Taalib, who was the uncle of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), and told him that he must now look after Nabi Muhammad (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam). He also told him that he must be very kind to Nabi Muhammad (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) and must show him a lot of love.

Abu Taalib began to take care of Nabi Muhammad (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) and loved him even more than his own children. Abu Taalib continued to look after Nabi Muhammad (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) and always protected him and helped him, even after he grew up and became the Nabi of Allah Ta‘ala. However, very sadly, even though he loved Nabi Muhammad (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) so much, he did not become a Muslim and died as a non-Muslim.

Once, when Nabi Muhammad (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) was a young boy, the city of Makkah Mukarramah had a very bad drought. There was no water and all the people were suffering, so they came to Abu Taalib and asked him to make du‘aa for rain. Abu Taalib agreed and began walking to the Haram with his young nephew, Nabi Muhammad (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam).

When they came to the Ka‘bah, Abu Taalib placed Nabi Muhammad (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) in front and then started to make du‘aa. He knew that Nabi Muhammad (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) is a very special boy, and if he put him in the front, then Allah Ta‘ala will become happy and accept their du‘aa.

After placing Nabi Muhammad (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) in front, Abu Taalib began to make du‘aa, and in just a few moments, the sky filled with clouds. It then began to rain, and so much of rain fell that the rivers and streams became full and were gushing with water. This was through the barakah and blessing of Nabi Muhammad (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam).
