In order to gain maximum benefit from the blessed month of Ramadhaan, it is important that we set ourselves goals and also set aside adequate time for the achievement of these goals. In this regard, a “Ramadhaan Goal Achievement Guide” has been attached which if printed and adhered to, will assist us to keep track of our progress.
The goals chalked out in the guide are:
1. Qadhaa Salaah – If we have any qadhaa salaah, let us begin performing them in this blessed month. If we consistently perform our outstanding salaah in Ramadhaan, then although we may not be able to complete all that are outstanding in this month, insha-Allah through the blessing of this month, we will find it easy to continue performing them after Ramadhaan as well. The number of the respective salaah that are performed daily should be written in the corresponding block e.g. if 3 x ‘Asr Salaah were performed on the 10th, write “3” in the corresponding block.
2. Tilaawat – To recite a large portion of the Quraan Majeed in one sitting may not be easy and may tire the reciter. It is therefore recommended that we allocate certain portions of the day to reciting the Quraan Majeed and also set ourselves a target amount to be recited in each session. Five sessions have been allocated in the guide (the number of sessions may differ from person to person). By way of example, the first session could be at the time of tahajjud, the second before zuhr, etc. The amount recited in each session should be written in the corresponding block.
3. Zikr – We should try to recite the first kalimah in abundance, together with making istighfaar (seeking the forgiveness of Allah Ta‘ala) and reciting durood (sending salutations on Nabi [sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam]). The amount of each type of zikr completed for the day should be filled into the corresponding block.
4. Du‘aa – Try to make at least 15 minutes of du‘aa daily. When making du‘aa, specifically ask Allah Ta‘ala for entry into Jannah and salvation from Jahannum, since Nabi (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) has advised us to do so in this month. If these two goals have been achieved, tick the appropriate blocks.
5. Nafl Salaah – The number of rakaats for each category of nafl salaah can be written in the corresponding block.
6. Ta’leem – Try to make ta’leem from Fazaail-e-Ramadhaan for at least 10 minutes daily. If 10 minutes were accomplished, tick the appropriate block.
When setting a goal for ourselves, remember to set a realistic goal (something which we can achieve). We should not give up entirely if we fall short in fulfilling our goals for a few days. Rather, we should take up courage and reapply ourselves to benefiting from this blessed month.
May Allah Ta‘ala grant us all the ability to achieve our goals and derive maximum benefit from this blessed month, aameen.
