Ma‘add

Among the forefathers of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) was a man named Ma‘add. He was a very strong warrior and would always win the battles that he fought.

Ma‘add was a young boy, just twelve years old, when the king Bukhtunasar was ruling. Bukhtunasar was going to attack the Arabs, so Allah Ta‘ala instructed the Nabi of the time, Nabi Armiyaa (‘alaihis salaam), to place Ma‘add on the buraaq and take him away to safety. A buraaq is a special animal, similar to a horse, that Allah Ta‘ala would allow the Ambiyaa (‘alaihimus salaam) to ride. The buraaq gallops so fast that every step it takes is as far as a person can see!

Nabi Armiyaa (‘alaihis salaam) placed Ma‘add on the buraaq and took him to Syria. The reason for Allah Ta‘ala instructing Nabi Armiyaa (‘alaihis salaam) to keep Ma‘add safe is that he was the forefather of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam). He needed to stay safe so that many years later, from his children, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) could be born.

Ilyaas

Another forefather of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) was a man named Ilyaas. He had the same name as the prophet of Allah, Nabi Ilyaas (‘alaihis salaam). He was the first person to take animals to the Ka’bah when performing hajj so that he could slaughter them as qurbaani for Allah Ta‘ala.

Fihr

Fihr was also one of the forefathers of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam). He was also known as “Quraish”, and it is all his children and grandchildren that are called the family or tribe of the Quraish. The word Quraish actually means a type of creature that lives in the ocean, similar to a shark. It is a very strong creature, and other creatures respect it and do not attack it. The Quraish family were also very strong and mighty, and the other families respected them and would not fight with them. That is the reason why they were called Quraish.

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) also had a forefather named Ka’b. Every Friday, he would gather all the people and give them a bayaan. He would speak about how great Allah Ta‘ala is, and how Allah Ta‘ala created the earth, the skies, the sun, the moon and everything else. Then, he would tell the people to be good and pious. He would also tell them that Nabi Muhammad (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) was going to be born from his children, many years later. He would tell them that if they were still alive when Nabi Muhammad (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) arrived, then they must all listen to him and follow him.

Lessons:

1. When Allah Ta‘ala wants to protect a person and keep him safe, then no person will be able to hurt him or trouble him. When Allah Ta‘ala wanted to keep Ma‘add safe from Bukhtunasar, Allah Ta‘ala told Nabi Armiyaa (‘alaihis salaam) to take him away to Syria, so that Bukhtunasar could not harm him. We must always make du‘aa to Allah Ta‘ala to protect us and look after us, because Allah Ta‘ala is the best protector.

2. We must think about the greatness of Allah Ta‘ala all the time. We must think about how powerful He is, and how kind He is to us, and how He gives us everything and loves us. We must also talk about Allah Ta‘ala as much as we can, because then our imaan and belief will become strong and we will be good Muslims.
