After Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) told Sayyidah Khadeejah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) that he met the angel, and that Allah Ta‘ala had made him His Nabi, she went to see her cousin, Waraqah bin Nawfal.

Waraqah was very old and had become blind, but he had studied the kitaabs of the Ambiyaa of the past, so he knew about the Ambiyaa of Allah Ta‘ala. When she told him what had happened to Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), he said, “If you are telling me the truth, then the angel will continue to come to him, and that is the same angel who would come to Nabi ‘Isa (‘alaihis salaam).”

Sayyidah Khadeejah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) then took Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) to see Waraqah bin Nawfal. After Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) explained to Waraqah what had happened, Waraqah knew that he was the true Nabi of Allah Ta‘ala. Waraqah said, “This is the same angel who would come to Nabi Moosa (‘alaihis salaam)!”

Then Waraqah said, “If only I was young and strong, so that when the people of Makkah chase you away from Makkah, then I could help you!” When Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) heard that the people of Makkah, who were his friends and family, would chase him away, he became very surprised. He asked Waraqah, “Will they really chase me away?”

Waraqah said, “Yes. This happened to all the Ambiyaa. Whenever a person became the Nabi of Allah Ta‘ala, and started to teach the people Deen, then many people became his enemies and started troubling him.” However, Waraqah passed away soon afterwards and did not live to see the time when the people troubled Rasululllah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam).

After becoming the Nabi of Allah Ta‘ala, the angel, Jibreel (‘alaihis salaam), continued to come to Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) with wahi, bringing messages from Allah Ta‘ala. One day, Sayyidah Khadeejah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) asked Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) to tell her the next time the angel came to him.

So, the next time Jibreel (‘alaihis salaam) came to Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), he told her, and she took off her scarf, leaving her hair open. She then asked Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), “Can you still see the angel?” Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) replied that now he could not see the angel any more. Sayyidah Khadeejah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) then told Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) that this meant that the one coming to him was definitely an angel, and was not a shaitaan.

The reason is that angels do not stay in a place where a woman’s hair is open. That is why when she opened her hair, Jibreel (‘alaihis salaam) went away. If it was a shaitaan, then he would not have went away.

Lessons:

1. Waraqah told Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) that if he was still alive when the people of Makkah trouble him, then he would help Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam). In the same way, if any person is trying to do something good then we must try to help him and support him.

2. Girls must try to keep their hair covered, because this will allow the angels to come into the house where they will help us and protect us. We must also make sure that there are no pictures or videos of people and animals in the house because this makes the angels go away.
