Beautiful is the breeze that blows across the desert sands

And the mighty waves that gently kiss the shore

Like the snow cornice that tightly embraces the mountain top

To every flower that blooms after the merciful rain

But there’s nothing more beautiful, than the golden dew of a radiant Ramadhaan

A heart-to-heart connection, between Master and slave

His clemency, compassion, and rahmah upon our sinful souls

His forbearance, tolerance and forgiveness, despite our audacity to disobey and transgress

His love and light, although we forget Him, unless in an unfortunate situation or plight

A month to revitalise, rejuvenate and reconnect; to Allah – The Almighty

To renew and restore, to awaken and brighten, to advance and progress – to become better, stronger and cured

By dint of this sacred month, which comes with an abundance of mercy, forgiveness and a writ of deliverance from an-naar (hellfire) is acquired

You’re welcome O Ramadhan! And oh, most welcome you are!

For you come by so swiftly and leave no sooner, in equal leaps and bounds

And for a guest so glorious and dignified as you, what have we prepared? Is it the food for a scrumptious iftaar? Is it a night of ghaflah (negligence) after Taraaweeh? Is it to sleep in, through Fajr Salaah, because we awoke earlier for suhoor?

Ah! What can we say…

We present to Allah Ta‘ala through your blessedness, a tainted heart and a weary soul

Perhaps, you may pen us an ointment to make this halfness whole

Bathe us in your mercy and allow us to receive Allah Ta‘ala’s complete forgiveness

And leave not, until Al-Ghaffaar pardons enough – enough to save us from the blazing fire

Come soon, as we await, hoping to count on you for our dear lives

Our hearts long for a salaah of Tahajjud before dawn, a sincere du‘aa that averts the huge yawn

Sunrise to sunset a fast though long, from the day all tired and worn

Yet, to still most eagerly stand and pray; making the most, as this guest never over stays

An iftaar surrounded by families and friends, to a heart of generosity we gracefully extend

Days of siyaam (fasting), trailing into nights of lengthy qiyaam (Taraaweeh) and reciting over and over, from Allah’s most sublime kalaam (i.e. the Quraan Majeed)

Welcome O Ramadhaan, as you come by to heal, having our flaws pardoned and concealed

The time has arrived for each believer to understand, that we shall fast and pray because this month is so grand
