(Ambiyaa [‘alaihimus salaam] Series – Nabi Aadam [‘alaihis salaam] #2)

After Allah Ta‘ala created the earth, and all the animals and plants, and placed the mountains on the land, Allah Ta‘ala created Nabi Aadam (‘alaihis salaam). Nabi Aadam (‘alaihis salaam) was the first human and before him, there was no other person.

Before Allah Ta‘ala created Nabi Aadam (‘alaihis salaam), Allah Ta‘ala told the angels, “I am going to create a person who will rule the world according to my commands!” The angels were already worshipping Allah Ta‘ala and they could not commit any sin. But this new creation could obey Allah Ta‘ala and commit sins also.

The angels knew that whatever Allah Ta‘ala does, there is only good in it. But, they could not understand it, so they asked Allah Ta‘ala, “Will You create someone who will cause problems on the earth and kill (other people), while we praise you and worship you?” So Allah Ta‘ala reminded them, “Certainly, I know what you do not know.”

Afterwards, Allah Ta‘ala made a pure human form with water and clay. Allah Ta‘ala then placed life into it. Allah Ta‘ala named this human Aadam (‘alaihis salaam). He is the father of every single human being.

Allah Ta‘ala taught Nabi Aadam (‘alaihis salaam) the names of everything which He created. The mountains and seas, the different animals, insects and birds, the trees and plants, the oceans and rivers, the sun, moon and stars, and everything else. Allah Ta‘ala also taught him the qualities and benefits of everything.

After Allah Ta‘ala taught Nabi Aadam (‘alaihis salaam), He called the angels and said to them, “Tell me the names of these different things (which I have taught Aadam [‘alaihis salaam]).” The angels did not have knowledge of all these things because their job was only to obey Allah Ta‘ala and worship Him, so they could not give an answer. They said to Allah Ta‘ala, “You are pure (from all faults)! We have no knowledge except what You have given us. Surely, You alone are the All-Knowing, All-Wise.”

Allah Ta‘ala then said, “O Aadam, tell them the names of all these things.” When he told them their names, Allah Ta‘ala said, “Did I not tell you that I know the secrets of the skies and of the earth, and that I know what you do openly and what you hide.”

We learn from here that the knowledge and wisdom of Allah Ta‘ala is so great that even the angels could not understand it. When they could not understand it, how will we be able to fully understand it? Therefore, we must always follow the command of Allah Ta‘ala knowing that there is good in it, whether we understand it or not.
