When Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) was six years old, his mother, Aaminah, travelled from Makkah Mukarramah to Madeenah Munawwarah. Before starting the journey, she decided to take her young son, Nabi Muhammad (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), with her, as well as Sayyidah Ummu Ayman (radhiyallahu ‘anha).
On arriving in Madeenah Munawwarah, Aaminah stayed at her parents’ home for one month. Thereafter, they left Madeenah Munawwarah to return to Makkah Mukarramah. However, while they were traveling and returning to Makkah Mukarramah, they came to a place named Abwaa. While they were at Abwaa, Aaminah passed away, and this is where she was buried.
Sayyidah Ummu Ayman (radhiyallahu ‘anha) then brought the young boy, Nabi Muhammad (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), back to Makkah Mukarramah, and handed him to the care of his grandfather, ‘Abdul Muttalib.
‘Abdul Muttalib loved Nabi Muhammad (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) very much and liked to keep him close by all the time. When ‘Abdul Muttalib would go to Musjidul Haraam, a special mat would be placed in the shade of the Ka’bah for ‘Abdul Muttalib. Only ‘Abdul Muttalib was allowed to sit on this mat, and even his children were not allowed to sit on it. However, when Nabi Muhammad (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) would come, then he would sit on the mat. His uncles would tell him to move off the mat, but ‘Abdul Muttalib loved him so much that he would say, “Leave him! This boy is going to become a very important person one day!” He would then call Nabi Muhammad (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) and make him sit close to him on the mat, and when ‘Abdul Muttalib would look at him, he would become very happy.
