(Ambiyaa [‘alaihimus salaam] Series – Nabi Ebrahim [‘alaihis salaam] #04)
During the time of Nabi Ebrahim (‘alaihis salaam) there lived a king named Namrood. Allah Ta‘ala blessed this king with lots of wealth and power and he ruled for many years. Instead of being grateful to Allah Ta‘ala for this wealth and power, the king became very proud and boastful.
Namrood was a very bad person and he used to oppress the people. He claimed to be God and wanted the people to worship him and make sajdah before him.
Ebrahim (‘alaihis salaam) did not make sajdah in front of Namrood. When Namrood asked him why he did not make sajdah, he said that he only makes sajdah to His Rabb. Namrood asked him, “Who is your Rabb?”. Ebrahim (‘alaihis salaam) told him, “My Rabb is The One Who gives life and death”.
Namrood said, “I give life and death”. He then commanded his people to bring two people who were going to be killed. He ordered them to kill one of them and said, “I gave him death”. Then he let the other one go free and said, “I gave him life”.
Although Namrood knew that in reality this was not giving life and death, he was too proud and arrogant to accept that he was wrong. He wanted the people to worship him.
Ebrahim (‘alaihis salaam) then told him that every day, my Rabb, Allah Ta‘ala, makes the sun rise from the east so if you are truly God, then you make it rise from the west.
Namrood knew that he could never do such a thing as he was not a God in reality. He was dumbfounded and could not say anything to Ebrahim (‘alaihis salaam).
This proved that he was not a God and only Allah Ta‘ala is our Rabb and Allah Ta‘ala Alone is worthy of worship.
