Sayyiduna Talhah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) once went to the city of Busraa for business. While he was in the market of Busraa, he heard a person asking the people, “Is there anyone here, in this market, who comes from Makkah Mukarramah?” Hearing this, Sayyiduna Talhah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) went to the person and said, “I am from Makkah Mukarramah.”

The man asked him, “Tell me, has Ahmad (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) appeared yet?” The name ‘Ahmad’ is one of the names of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), but Sayyiduna Talhah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) was not sure about who the man was referring to, so he asked him to explain more.”

The man said, “Ahmad is the son of ‘Abdullah, who is the son of ‘Abdul Muttalib. This is the month when he is supposed to appear as the Nabi of Allah Ta‘ala. First, he will appear in Makkah Mukarramah, then he will move away to another land which has a lot of rocks and date palm trees. He is the last prophet of Allah Ta‘ala, so make sure that you follow him.”

As soon as Sayyiduna Talhah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) retuned to Makkah Mukarramah, he asked the people if anything important happened in Makkah Mukarramah while he was gone to Busraa. The people said, “Yes, Muhammad (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam), the one who everyone trusts, says that Allah Ta‘ala has made him His prophet. Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) believes him and has joined him.”

Hearing this, Sayyiduna Talhah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) went to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), who took him to Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam). Sayyiduna Talhah (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) then accepted Islam and told Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) what the man in Busraa had told him.
