Question:
Assalaamu ‘alaikum
Respected Mufti Saheb
I am divorced and have a ten-year-old daughter. I work full-time and, due to a recent increase in workload, I have been returning home late. My family lives on the same property, and suddenly my daughter refuses even to look at me. They entered my home, removed all her clothes, and claim that I am not a good mother.
I am in a serious dilemma, as I feel that I have no one to turn to at present. My daughter says that she has no food to eat and makes similar complaints. Please advise me, Mufti, as I feel as though I am losing my sanity.
This is the same child who refuses to allow me to remarry. She screams and shouts at me when the matter is mentioned. Despite everything, I am doing my best to provide for her and fulfil my responsibilities.
Answer:
The simple and most effective solution is to stop working and be content with living with your mother. This will help prevent the distress and emotional strain you are experiencing. There are many women who engage in some form of home-based work and live quite comfortably while remaining within the confines of the home.
And Allah Ta‘ala knows best
